Curriculum Intent and Rationale

Intent

It is our belief that the pupils of Leasowe Primary School deserve to experience an ambitious curriculum that will give them confidence as learners, and inspire them to become well-rounded human beings with a positive future outlook.

Our curriculum will be relevant to our children’s life experiences but additionally, it will be aspirational and open their minds to new concepts and opportunities. Through the thematic approach, we aim for our pupils to make sense of, and bring meaning to their learning.

It is our intention that the Leasowe Primary School curriculum will inspire our pupils to appreciate that they are valued members of society and that, through their choices, they can positively contribute to it.

Implementation

Leasowe Primary School is committed to meeting the requirements of the Primary National Curriculum in a safe, nurturing and inspirational learning environment.

We give high priority to teaching the fundamentals of reading, writing and maths every day to ensure that all pupils acquire the basic skills for learning and life, and these skills are used and practiced consistently across other subjects.

Our schemes of work reflect the content and challenge of the curriculum. Our inspirational teachers and support staff are knowledgeable and experienced in delivering a Quality First curriculum and providing an excellent learning experience for all our children.

The curriculum will be taught with consideration to the needs of all learners. Our curriculum strives to be challenging, while exciting and inspiring, and aims to nurture a passion for learning to give learners the best opportunities to succeed in life.

It is important to us to provide a broad range of exciting, relevant and creative cultural opportunities that enrich the children's learning, including trips, visits, visitors, outdoor learning and links with the local community.

Impact

Our curriculum is monitored and evaluated through a rigorous quality assurance process, to ensure that it is meeting the needs of our learners effectively, whilst challenging and inspiring them. Each pupil’s progress is discussed as part of the Pupil progress meetings which take place with members of the SLT at regular intervals. Pupil Progress meetings include discussion around assessments, targets and  work scrutiny and observation/pupil voice input.

If you would like to learn more about our Curriculum offer, please speak to your child’s class teacher or a member of the SLT at any time.
